National Park “Braslav lakes” is situated in the Northwest of the Republic of Belarus, 250 km from Minsk, with an area of about 70 hectares. It was created in August 1995 and was known as one of the most beautiful places of Belarus.
The unique ecological environment of this lake district bears the features of the ice age. The biggest lakes are Drivyaty, Snudy, Voyso, North voloso, Nedrovo, Biareža, Double, Funs, etc. are among hilly terrain. Each of them has its own characteristics and uniqueness. The total amount of water surface of the lakes is 183 square kilometres. On the lake Strusto is located the second largest island in Belarus – Chaichin (1,6 sq km sq), which has internal reservoir – a small lake.
Veloso South of the lake is the deepest in the national Park. Its maximum depth is 40.4 m, with an area of 1.2 sq km. the Lake is known for the extraordinary purity of water, its transparency is 7 m. the region’s flora has over 800 species of plants, including 20 rare and endangered listed in the Red book of the Republic of Belarus. The National Park is widely represented typical and unique (including the relic) the animal community and group separate valuable representatives of the animal world. Water ecological systems with diverse and often unique fauna – the main wealth of the Braslav lakes national Park. The lakes of Braslav is the southern limit of the distribution of relic invertebrates that serve as indicators of clean water. In these lakes the variety of fish fauna. Here is home to 30 species of fish, including eel of economic importance. The Park is a home to 35 percent of all nesting in Belarus birds. 45 species listed in the Red book. A group of birds that have commercial value, and is rich in species (grouse, waders, waterfowl), and in quantitative terms (here lives up to 15 per cent of the total stock of wildfowl lake district).
The Park is home listed in the Red book badgers, lynxes, brown bears, flying squirrels, elks, boars and ROE deer. The national Park centre is one of the oldest towns of Belarus – Braslav. The first mention of it dates back to the early eleventh century. The city is located on the North shore of lake Drivyaty, the lush greenery of the hill. The national Park offers visitors a variety (Hiking, horseback riding, road, water) single and multi-day Hiking trails. A lasting impression leaves a boat trip, a sightseeing tour by helicopter.
