When you are in Uganda, make a trip to lake Victoria. Only in this lake is home to fish, Marco, in other bodies of water the fish lived 300 million years ago. She is able to hold the inhaled air in the gills – so only makes a man: holds the air in his lungs. This fish represents the element of the so-called “adapter”, between the fish and animals on land. In addition to this unique fish in the lake full – full of crocodiles. Another phenomenon – an unimaginably rapid formation of new species and subspecies of fish – the phenomenon puts Darwin’s theory of evolution to a standstill, as he claimed that this is possible only over a long period of time. But the little fish from lake Victoria baffled not only the theory of Darwin, but of many scientists. On the same place in a few years it is again possible to observe a new appearance. And what absolutely fantastic – the ability to change the fish from this lake you can almost see already in the next generation, even if they live in your aquarium!
In addition to its rich underwater world and its inhabitants, the lake is also known in that it originates the sacred Nile. Victoria – the largest lake in Africa and second largest in the world. Fresh water in the lake is of excellent quality, Continue reading
The largest lake in Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia — Issyk-Kul. The total volume of water of the Issyk-Kul lake — 1738 km2, its average depth-278 m, maximum depth-668 m, the coastline stretches for 688 km, the length of the largest lake of Kyrgyzstan from the North to the South — 58 km, and from West to East is 182 km away.
Lake Issyk-Kul located at an altitude of 1609 m above sea level between the ridges of the Northern Tien-Shan: Terskey Ala-too and Kungei Ala-too. Issyk-Kul is one of the largest mountain lakes in the world.
The largest lake of Kyrgyzstan is powered by water more than eighty rivers, but none of them carries its water back, so the water in the lake is salty (salinity — 5,90%). The ancient name of the lake — “ACE-Kul” — «Salty lake” speaks for itself, the water here is not potable. The present name of the lake — “Issyk-Kul lake” is translated from Kyrgyz as the “Hot lake”. It is also logical — the lake never freezes (even in the depths of winter and severe frosts), due to the considerable depth of the water does not become completely cool. In July and August, the water warms up to +18−20°, and in winter cools to + 4,2−5,0°.
For the first time Issyk-Kul is mentioned Continue reading

Lake Powell, located on the border of Utah and Arizona, was created by the construction of a dam on the Colorado river in the Glen Canyon area. Although the construction of the dam and was met by numerous protests from ecologists and anthropologists, the project was completed on time, namely in 1963.
The shoreline of the lake is 3156 km and by this indicator it is not only a leader in the U.S. among the lakes, but this figure even more than the total length of the American coast of the Pacific ocean!
The maximum width of lake Powell reaches 40 km and depth of about 170 meters. It is of interest that the hydroelectric power station built on the dam, fully supplies electricity to five States of the USA.
Water not only fills Glen Canyon, and about 90 smaller canyons adjacent to it. The best Continue reading
