The thought behind the past Bahamas Speed Week was basic: During one of his visits to Nassau in the mid 1950s, Floridian business visionary, racer, and legislator Sherman "Red" Crise saw opportunity in the unfilled Windsor landing strip. Changing over neglected landing strips into race circuits was basic after World War II, and Nassau authorities reacted eagerly to the possibility of more vacationer dollars streaming in during the slow time of year.
